ART

At Cornerstone we offer a variety of art experiences. In this class, our students review art elements and principals of design. Students are introduced to new ways of using design and creating works of art. The class also teaches the students why art and design are so important in our world today. Students use various works in the mediums of oil pastel, watercolor, pencil, photo, and oil painting. The students are taught how to apply different techniques in each area.

MUSIC THEORY

In this elective class, we'll be learning the science behind music. We'll learn how to read and write music, how chords are structured, and how to create our own chords. We will also explore the purpose of scales and how they are constructed.

COMPUTERS

Tynker is our new computer curriculum, an end-to-end solution that will easily and successfully train students in computer coding and programing. Using visual code blocks, Tynker guides kids through programming concepts – such as loops, conditional logic, sequencing, and algorithmic thinking. At the end of the quarter they will have created their own projects, their own way.

SPANISH

Our Spanish classes are designed to teach our students conversation, vocabulary, and grammar. Included are interactive videos, games, and projects. The Jr. High classes are taught by an instructor everyday for one quarter per school year.

PHOTOGRAPHY

This course will help the students become well-rounded in the fundamentals of digital photography. Six areas of instruction will be emphasized: How cameras work, understanding shooting modes, finding light, composition and perspective, the study of various types of photography, and eventually pulling it together and finding creativity in their work.

JR HIGH HIGHLIGHTS

EVENTS & TRADITIONS

Our Jr. High students look forward to our annual extra curricular activities, including trips, dances, and special events. We enjoy supplementing our curriculum with exciting, and memorable moments throughout the year.

Art & History Showcase

This spring event is an opportunity for our Junior high students to display their capstone projects. Art projects include various art mediums such as; watercolor, sculpture, chalk, pastels and photography. History projects demonstrate the students' knowledge in the form of topographical and biographical three dimensional displays.

Chapel

Every Wednesday our Jr and Sr High come together for a morning of worship with Pastor Stevie Nix, and the occasional guest speaker. Our students worship through song, play games, and listen as Pastor Stevie brings them what the Lord has placed on his heart.

Daddy Daughter Dance

The Daddy Daughter Dance is an event we look forward to in early Spring. Our parent committee works hard to plan a lovely evening for daddies and their daughters. Year after year it is the talk of the school, and we are so grateful for all the hard work that goes into it.

Formal

The Junior High Formal is held in late Spring, and is open to our seventh and eighth grade classes. This event is a big highlight of their year, which includes dinner, a DJ, and dancing the night away.

Fun Run & Carnival

One of our first big traditions happens in September, the Fun Run and Carnival. Classes take turns jogging at a local park, and come back to spend some exciting time in the parking lot Carnival, including the much anticipated, Dunk
Tank with our principal, Mr. Heyer.

Holidays

We love celebrating both Thanksgiving and Christmas here at Cornerstone. Our Junior High students look forward to these events as we come together, giving thanks and celebrating the birth of Jesus with games, delicious food, and the ever exciting decorating of our fearless leader, Principal Heyer.

Homecoming

The eighth grade class is invited to join our Sr High at Homecoming each fall. Held here at Cornerstone, students come together for an evening of food, music, and fun - as well as the anticipated Homecoming Court.

Outdoor Ed

Outdoor Education is a week long Science camp experience located in the picturesque California foothills. In conjunction with the Genesis Account staff, students learn first hand about the beautiful intricacies of God's creation. Activities include classes in botany, animal classification and basic survival skills. Highlights of camp include team building games, campfire time, worship and flashlight tag.

Pep Rallies

Throughout the year, Cornerstone holds pep rallies for our junior and senior high school. They are fun, exciting, and incredibly loud! Students and staff love showing school spirit, as the Cougar Cheerleaders lead us in a variety of games, cheers, and an all around good time.

Science Fair

The science fair allows our 5th and 7th grade students an opportunity to present and display projects which they have been diligently working on throughout the course of the year. Science fair projects demonstrate the students' knowledge of the scientific method through experimentation, data collection and analysis. Display boards allow students the opportunity to present results and showcase their creativity. Winners from our school Science Fair go on to represent Cornerstone at the Association of Christian School International at the Northern California Regional Science Fair.

Spiritual Emphasis Day

Spiritual Emphasis day is always one of the most highly anticipated days of the year.  Students are able to experience God on a deeper level as they enjoy a day of worship, are challenged by guest speakers, and interact with peers in a small group setting.

Spirit Week

Cornerstone has special Spirit Days throughout the year, in addition to Spirit Week. The students are encouraged to show their school spirit with a variety of fun and creative prompts. It is always exciting to see how our school rallies together, whether it is Crazy Sock Day, Cougar Spirit Day, or Camo Day!

Zero Heroes

Zero Hero is a quarterly award to recognize those students who have no missing work, no tardies, and no demerits. Each quarter students are rewarded with a special field trip and for those whom achieve this all four quarters enjoy a day at a local amusement park.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT

Student government is comprised of students whom are elected by their peers to serve and represent the junior high classes. Under supervision of a faculty adviser, this group of students is responsible for planning and organizing the junior high formal and a variety of class events. In this environment students work together while learning the democratic process.

8th Grade Graduation

Our 8th Grade Graduation is held at the end of the school year. We love celebrating our hard-working 8th graders as they are promoted to the next big stage in their education.

Washington DC

Every other year our seventh and eighth grade students have the opportunity to go on the trip of a lifetime. This trip is organized and conducted in affiliation with American Christian Tours. On this trip students are transported back in time while visiting historical landmarks such as the early American settlements in Jamestown and Williamsburg, national monuments and experience the bright lights of Broadway in New York City. Students also gain a respect and appreciation for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom while visiting the National Holocaust Museum, Ground Zero and 9/11 Memorials.
